The Lærdal tunnel in Norway, at 24.5 km, is the longest road tunnel in the world. To break the monotony and mental strain for drivers, it has three open, brightly-lit caves, dividing the tunnel into four sections. (Another common but less visually captivating strategy is to put curves not dictated by terrain into the tunnel, thereby keeping the driver more alert.) Long exposures like this one, Under the glacier, have a magic feel. Awesome as that would be, it’s not actually under a glacier.

The caves don’t look quite so futuristic at a faster shutter speed, but it’s still pretty cool.

Traveling through Norway I’ve been through a lot of tunnels, but not this one, unfortunately. If you have tunnel phobia, this isn’t the place for you.
