Paint by numbers is a magazine cover meme. Here’s the original by Richard Hess, which was supposed to be the June 1967 cover of Esquire, but was changed right before press. It reads:
LBJ’s birthday is August 27th. Color this portrait, send it to him, and make him happy.
Wouldn’t it be an awesome practical joke if the US president was suddenly bombarded with birthday greetings in the form of his face painted in all color-combinations imaginable? (Well, today, that would probably be seen as a terrorist offensive. Oh well.)
Come to think of it, the next time some prominent politician displays racist tendencies, that’s what people should do.
