Faraday cage
A Faraday cage or Faraday shield is an enclosure formed by conducting material, or by a mesh of such material. Such an enclosure blocks out external static electrical fields. Faraday cages are named after physicist Michael Faraday, who built one in 1836.
I should have known the name wasn’t coincidental. Oh, and I can’t remember having posted anything to do with Lost here, at least not in a long time, so when I’m in the flow: I just found out that Desmond’s full name is Desmond David Hume. I love touches like that. Treat yourself to the Wikipedia page on Hume and delight in the connection with recent events.
Oh, and one more thing: I’ve noticed some naysayers on Tumblr. You can go strand on an island or something. Lost still rocks, especially after The Constant.
