Every time you sniff and say somebody has ‘too much free time,’ the part of you that used to love making things for pure joy dies a little.

There’s a Norwegian proverb, “Idleness is the root of all evil.” While I don’t entirely agree with that either, I’ve seen people do some pretty nasty things “just for fun”, and yes, when you’re so bored you start doing nasty stuff, I would say you have too much free time, and I’m not ashamed of it. But of course, if doing something that doesn’t hurt anyone, but takes lots of time just for fun is considered having too much free time, then I agree that it’s a stupid use of the expression.
