I’ve come to realize there are certain things you can’t photograph, like the awesomeness of this big stone. It lies inside a tiny forest urbanity is devouring piece by piece, and the surrounding underbrush is littered with trash. One of the pieces of trash is this rusty thing that can be used as a ladder, allowing you to sit on top of a large stone in a small forest whenever you want some kind of inner peace. Once, I hid a bunch of coins around the base of the stone and took my little brother on a treasure hunt. I’m pretty sure I’ve also sat on top of the stone with my childhood best friend planning the tree house we were going to build in that forest — plans that were never carried out, although I seem to remember we hauled a bunch of planks into the woods to use as materials.
I don’t know, maybe that kind of thing is what makes me go out there when the rain is pouring to try to capture the awesomeness of that stone.
