Metamorphosis

As you can see, if you’re not reading this through a feed or the tumblr dashboard, I gave it a makeover. The old design didn’t last long, but then again, I was never really certain what I wanted this site to be. I have tested it, of course, but if it does break and you’d like it not to, contact me and I’ll see what I can do.

I’ve looked over my recent posts, and I’ll be the first to admit that it doesn’t exactly ooze intellectual appeal. It doesn’t challenge your neurons. It’s not all lolcats and Something Awful, either. It’s simply not what I want it to be.

So, what do I want this site to be? Hard to answer. More than a list of pictures and links, less than a full-fledged blog. More than anything, I’d like it to be interesting. I’d like to be able to go back in some years’ time and, provided that the links haven’t gone dead since then, have a good time.

One example of an interesting blog that’s something like a tumblelog is 3 Quarks Daily. It calls itself a filter blog, and it’s run by several editors. They have columns show up on Mondays, but usually, it’s like a tumblelog.

I’m not gonna copy them, or even try. I’m not several people, and the reason I chose a lightweight blog is that I want to be able to share a link, a picture or an idea without writing an essay on it, and I want to be able to be active every day. Being one person, I have limitations, both in knowledge, intelligence and interests. I don’t spend all day trawling the internet for brain fodder (although sometimes it may feel that way).

So, what’s changed? Not much, except the design and my attitude. Some would say that it’s a little early to be changing direction. That’s the nice thing about tumblelogs: they’re dynamic, they stretch, expand and distort over time, at a faster pace than normal blogs; at least, that’s my romanticized view of them.

This site includes science, design, web, philosophy, linguistics, computer science, nice images, literature. It’ll continue to do so. Perhaps not much has changed.

But hey, at least it’s got a new look. That’s got to count for something.
